The first is Albrecht Durer's version, now in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum (http://www.museothyssen.org/en/thyssen/ficha_obra/459). It plays on the beautiful Jesus - caricatured scholars idea. The second work is Heinrich Hofmann's (http://www.heinrichhofmann.net/jesus-in-the-temple-1881.html). It's roughly contemporary with Liebermann's and was popular almost immediately. The Hofmann continues the Durer tradition of focusing on faces, though the Hofmann doesn't play as much on sterotypes as the Durer. Neither have the attempt at realism that Liebermann attempted. Holman Hunt's "Finding of the Savior in the Temple" is another moment in the story. He, too, was seeking "realism" like Liebermann, but he went to the Holy Land in 1854, rather than just Venice and Amsterdam. Hunt's work was well-received. An image of Hunt's work is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Finding_of_the_Saviour_in_the_Temple Hope these help.Lynn Miller Designhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03407716923344714540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-481788719516463263.post-7466896459814094162015-12-25T13:40:51.031-08:002015-12-25T13:40:51.031-08:00this is fascinating Lynn
